Eva is an incredible woman. Actress, brave, not afraid to speak her mind and always with the goal in mind to follow her dreams. She is a wonderful wife and now also a mum to a baby girl.
Last year, I was one of the first people to have the honor to know that she was expecting, and when she invited me to be a part of her 9 month project called “My Disney Pregnancy” I couldn’t say no!
The goal was to follow her pregnancy with a group of photos each month, where she’d be a different princess… but the characters weren’t picket just because they were pretty. Eva knew exactly the reasons why she was choosing each, for the values she wanted to pass on to her little baby.
Could it be any cuter than this?
And so we began…
- Snow White – Month 1
The first time Eva ever dressed as a princess character, she picked Snow White… And even though Eva is a feminist, her goal is to teach that it is ok to be pure, naive and fragile.
- Pocahontas – Month 2
Pocahontas means playful in the indigenous language, and her story was inspired by a legend of a Native American girl called Matoaka who fell in love with an English man. This is the princess that is the most connected with nature and all the animals. Eva wants her baby girl to value those two things too.
- Little Mermaid (Ariel) – Month 3
Ariel was the first princess of the sea in Disney history. She is adventurous and stubborn, and also shows the defying and curious sides every child should have.
- Princess Tiana (and the Frog!) – Month 4
Tiana is independent and determined. She likes doing things her own way, and never stops until she reaches her goals.
- Sleeping Beauty (Aurora) – Month 5
Yep, we travelled to Disneyland in Paris for this month of Eva’s maternity photos. It was important to Eva to take this princess to her beautiful castle, and remind her daughter to never stop dreaming and believing in love stories/fairy tales.
- Malefica – Month 6
Eva knew from the start that she wanted to also portray a “villain”, because we all have a less shiny side, a dark one.
A terrible betrayal turned this once pure young lady into a sad and revengeful heart… but compassion, and in this case for Aurora, turns her into light, and she begins to believe again in kindness towards other people.
- Brave (Merida) – Month 7
Merida means “woman who achieved a place of honor”. She is strong, and against her mothers wishes she aims to have control of her own destiny. Merida wants to be free to make her own choices.
Eva also chose Merida to explain that relationships between mother and daughter aren’t always easy, but that their bonds are unbreakable.
- Aladin (Jasmine) – Month 8
Jasmine was named after a flower… she is a free spirit who teaches us lessons of love above economic stereotypes (she is the daughter of a great king, and she falls in love with a commoner who is an apple stealer).
- Frozen (Elsa) – Month 9
Elsa is the older sister of princess Anna. Her name means “noble”.
Elsa leaves her kingdom because she is different. Because she is “cursed”. Anna goes after her and turns her cold heart into a loving warm one, showing us that nothing can stand in between sister love.
After we did the photos for Eva-Elsa, we were touched by the happiness of finishing this project with success, but also sadness of seeing it end.
On a good note, we vowed to always stay friends, and I am now the proud aunty to a beautiful little princess!
